Did Jasprit Bumrah's grandfather commit suicide?

Team India pacer Jasprit Bumrah received a very shocking news just before the first ODI between India and Sri Lanka commenced at Dharamsala on December 10. The news about his grandfather’s death surfaced the media and that must have certainly left the pacer heartbroken. Santokh Singh Bumrah, the grandfather of India’s one of the leading pacers Jasprit Bumrah, could have potentially committed suicide.

The most recent reports in the IBTimes suggest that Santokh was forced into committing suicide after he was denied a meeting with his grandson. It was Santokh’s dead body that was found in the Sabarmati river in Ahmedabad on Sunday morning. The body was found two days after the reports of him going missing was lodged with the Gujarat Police. It was Rajinder Kaur, daughter of Santokh, who had filed the missing report at the Vastrapur police station in Ahmedabad.

Arrived in Ahmedabad to meet Jasprit on his birthday

Reportedly, Santokh had traveled to Ahmedabad all the way from Uttarakhand to meet his grandson, Jasprit Bumrah. He had arrived in the city last week to meet Jasprit on his birthday (December 5). However, Daljit Kaur, mother of Jasprit, denied Santokh the permission to meet Jasprit. The 84-year old was subsequently distressed with the denial.

Daljit refused to let him meet Jasprit due to her anger. She was upset with Santokh not meeting them in the last 17 years – ever since the death of Jasprit Bumrah’s father, Jasbir Singh. The local police claim that the case is a suicide case since Santokh had called up another of his daughter to indicate that he was going to die.

Rajinder received the same information from her sister and subsequently reported to the police about the same. Santokh had a well established business in Uttarakhand which got disrupted after the death of his son. Later, he started driving auto rickshaw.
