Javed Miandad urges Pakistan to boycott India in ICC tournaments

Former Pakistan skipper Javed Miandad looks absolutely unimpressed with the way the BCCI has been treating the PCB in the recent times. It is evident that the two sides are not coming to a common ground. Pakistan is keen on playing against India in a bilateral series. However, the Indian counterparts, do not wish to do the same citing the political tensions across the border.

In the recent times, the only times when the two sides have played each other has been in the ICC events. As per the quotes in News18, Miandad recently urged PCB to boycott India in the ICC tournament. He feels that this will make the ICC feel the loss and that might subsequently end up seeing the two sides playing each other in bilateral series as well.

“It is time we responded with bricks to stones. There is no need for us to play with India at any forum if they are not willing to restore bilateral ties. We should also boycott playing against them in all ICC events. I think when we don’t play India in ICC events and the ICC suffers financial losses and their events lose significance and colour, only than we will be treated with respect and we will be heard on a equal level at any forum,” quoted Javed Miandad.

Miandad further noted that spending money on trying to lure the Indian counterparts for a series or in the fixtures at the ICC events is giving them no good. He wants the same amount of money to be used to develop the cricket structure in Pakistan instead.

“If the ICC board is not able to convince India to change its stance why should they expect us to play in the ICC events with India?” questioned Miandad.

“The same money, 100 crores rupees or more, can be pumped into our cricket infrastructure because no one will listen to us as India is very influential and strong in the ICC level. I see it as a waste of time and money,” Miandad said.

On 2012 India visit

The last time these two sides had met in a bilateral series was when Pakistan had toured India for a limited overs series in 2012. Miandad regrets the move by the board to send the national side to India back then. He feels that the Indian board misused this opportunity and ended up betraying Pakistan by not having a reverse fixture. He urged the PCB to boycott India in ICC events.

“We called it a good gesture but they took advantage of it and earned millions and in return we got nothing. And our failure to take a strong policy decision on ties with India has resulted in embarrassment for us many times. Boycott them in ICC events. Take a stance and see what will happen. We have nothing to lose,” Javed Miandad conceded.
