Jayant Yadav to lead India in Emerging Teams Asia Cup
Yadav is the only player in the squad with international experience.
The Emerging Teams Asia Cup in Sri Lanka is set to get underway on December 2 and will continue until December 17. In the meantime, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) junior selection committee has announced a formidable 15-man Indian squad for the 50-overs tournament. The committee members met in Kolkata to pick the team.
Jayant Yadav, the 28-year-old cricketer from Haryana, has been appointed as the skipper. He is the only player in the squad with international experience. The spin-bowling all-rounder has played four Tests and a solitary ODI thus far in his career but hasn’t played at the highest level ever since February 2017. A lot would be expected of all-rounder Deepak Hooda as well.
A couple of U19 stars in the team
Hooda has successfully plied his trade in the Indian Premier League (IPL) and at the domestic circuit. Hence, his role would be of prime importance. Delhi batsman Nitish Rana is also a part of the squad. Prab Simran Singh and left-arm spinner Siddharth Desai, who was a part of India U19’s victorious Asia Cup squad in Bangladesh, has also been included.
Mayank Markande has been duly rewarded and he came into the limelight after his strong shows for Mumbai Indians in the IPL. Teenage fast-bowling sensation Shivam Mavi has impressed with his raw pace ever since the U19 World Cup in New Zealand and he has also been drafted in.
The pace-bowling unit also consists of the likes of Prasidh Krishna from Karnataka and Ankit Rajpoot. Ankush Bains is the designated wicketkeeper. Shams Mulani was impressive in the recently concluded Vijay Hazare Trophy and he has been given an opportunity as well.
Here is the squad
Jayant Yadav (c), RD Gaekwad, Atharva Taide, Ankush Bains (wk), Deepak Hooda, Prab Simran Singh, Nitish Rana, Himmat Singh, S Mulani, Ankit Rajpoot, Prasidh Krishna, Siddharth Desai, Mayank Markande, Atith Seth, Shivam Mavi
