Jhulan Goswami to receive cash prize from CAB

Following the success of the Indian women’s team in the recently concluded ICC Women’s World Cup, the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) has announced a cash reward for state bowler, Jhulan Goswami. Goswami, 34, and the oldest cricketer in the squad will receive an amount of INR 10 Lakhs from the state association.

Former Indian skipper and CAB President Sourav Ganguly revealed that a grand event will be organized for the felicitation ceremony. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee will also be present to do the honors.

According to the Indian Express, Ganguly confirmed the news saying, “The Chief Minister will be coming and we will felicitate Jhulan in a big way.”

Earlier this week, on Wednesday night, the Indian eves received a grand reception in the national capital following their return from the World Cup. Sports Minister Vijay Goel who was present at the ceremony said that the Indian team’s performance has been era defining and will act as a catalyst to inspire the younger generation of female cricketers.

He also mentioned that the performance will be crucial to provide a morale boost to the India Under-17 football team for the upcoming FIFA Under-17 World Cup. He also ensured that top-notch facilities will be provided to players from every field.

An incredible journey in the World Cup

Dubbed as the dark horses in the tournament, the journey of the Indian women in the quadrennial event was remarkable. From having to play the World Cup qualifiers earlier this year to reach the finals of the event was a commendable feat. A team which was barely recognized until a month ago went on to create many records in England.

India finished the tournament as the runners-up after narrowly losing out to hosts England by 9 runs in a scintillating finale. With the win at Lord’s, England won their fourth World Cup trophy, and in the process, destroyed India’s chance to win their maiden World Cup.
