Jimmy Neesham and Ravi Ashwin engage in a friendly Twitter banter during the Brisbane T20I
Fans enjoyed the conversation as well.
Australia and India locked horns in the first of the three-match T20I series in Brisbane at the Gabba on Wednesday. The visitors won the toss and opted to field first after which the Aussie batsmen went hammer and tongs after a slow start. But when the game was nicely poised, the heavens opened up and it started to rain heavily. Meanwhile, during the break, New Zealand cricketer Jimmy Neesham and Ravi Ashwin got engaged in a friendly banter which left the fans in splits.
It all started with the Kiwi all-rounder asking a doubt on his official Twitter handle as the telecast of the match was suddenly stopped on Sky New Zealand channel after it started raining. He was unaware of the rain probably and was surprised that the Rugby game was going on at the channel. In reply, many of his followers, informed him about the rain gods making their presence felt while Ashwin also spared time courteously to tell him that it was pelting down in Brisbane.
When the game was interrupted, Australia were on top thanks to some blistering hitting by Glenn Maxwell and Marcus Stoinis who had stitched a partnership of 78 runs off just 36 deliveries.
Game over
Jimmy Neesham was then quick to take a cheeky dig at the Indian off-spinner asking him if it was raining sixes down under. However, Ravi Ashwin also found the lighter side of the argument and responded saying that Team India will bat soon in the second innings and indicating that they will easily chase down the total with the willow.
Amazed by Ashwin’s reply, even Neesham realised that Virat Kohli will be batting second and admitted that the Men in Blue have already won the game given the fact that he is the master of gunning down the totals single-handedly. As far as the match is concerned, it has been reduced to 17 overs per side and Australia posted 158 runs for the loss of four wickets. However, with the DLS method, the visitors have been set the target of 174 runs in the same number of overs with no more rain expected.
