The Vitality T20 Blast has witnessed some of the best games of this season on Friday. While some games were interrupted by rain, some games turned out to be nerve-wrecking ones. Out of the eight games that were played, the game between Lancashire and Yorkshire was one of the best games you’ll ever see.
The game was shortened to 14 overs per side due to a rain interruption. Yorkshire won the toss in this game and put Lancashire into bat first. Lancashire put up a massive 176 runs for the loss of 2 wickets in their quota of 14 overs. Lancashire’s skipper Liam Livingstone was one of the top performers for the team with the bat. Livingstone has been in great form this season. He carried the good form into this game as well. Livingstone scored 79 off 36 balls and was looking dangerous.
Up in the air, and takennnnn!
On the 37th ball of the innings, Livingstone played an uppish shot and the ball was in the air. However, he has placed that ball in the gap and it seemed as if it would go for a boundary. But, to his utter disbelief, Joe Root who was fielding in there took a blinder to dismiss him. Root jumped up high on to his left to grab the ball. He lunged sidewards at full stretch to complete the catch to dismiss the dangerous Livingstone.
However, Root‘s side didn’t manage to win the game despite his best efforts. They fell short of the target by just one run although Root scored a half-century. Adam Lyth scored a brilliant 60 to start off the innings. Root had scored 51 which came off just 22 balls. But, still, the team required 17 runs in the last over to complete the chase. Joe Root hit three boundaries in the first five balls. The team needed 4 runs off the last ball but Kane Williamson who was on strike only managed to score 2 runs thereby losing the game.
Here is Joe Root’s catch:
