The England team arrived in India with a hope of making it to the final of the ICC World Test Championship 2019-21. The task was going to be incredibly difficult for Joe Root and co but they gained stunning rhythm right from the opening Test. England beat India in the first Test by a massive margin of 227 runs. The win will go down as one of the best wins for the English team away from home.

After the success of the team, skipper Root is getting all the praises. In his 100th Test, he scored a fantastic 218 to set up the win for his team. Now, he has received a word of praise from the former England captain Nasser Hussain. This was also England’s sixth straight Test win in away conditions, having won three in South Africa, followed by two in Sri Lanka and now this one in Chennai.

While writing one of his columns, Hussain predicted that Root might end-up breaking all the records which have been set by English greats before him. He also said that Alastair Cook’s record as a batsman and a player could be well broken by Root. Cook is highest run-getter for England in Tests, with 12472 runs from 161 matches.

Joe Root is arguably England’s best-ever player of spin: Nasser Hussain

“Root sure is one of England’s greats. He will probably end up breaking all records, he will probably go past Sir Alastair Cook’s 161 Test matches and probably tally of runs as well,” Hussain wrote in his column for ‘Sky Sports’. Further, Hussain suggested that Root’s name should be taken with other England greats such as Cook, Graham Gooch and Kevin Pietersen. He also remarked that Root is the best-ever player of spin bowling among the England batters.

“He is in great nick, only 30 years old, and if you did a list of all-time England batting greats – the ones I have seen anyway – you’d have to have Root with Cook, Graham Gooch and Kevin Pietersen. I would say he is arguably England’s best-ever player of spin, the way he sweeps spin away is outstanding to watch,” Hussain added.

Hussain also gave credit to the England team for successfully defeating team India in their home conditions. He also called the win in Chennai as one of the top wins for the England team away from home.
