Jonathan Trott named England's batting coach for Pakistan Test series

Former England batsman Jonathan Trott has been brought in as a batting coach for the upcoming three-Test series against Pakistan. The 39-year-old Warwickshire batsman, who played 52 Tests for England, will work alongside Ex-New Zealand spinner Jeetan Patel and Warwickshire seamer Graeme Welch, who are set to join the head coach Chris Silverwood’s coaching set-up for the series.

While Welch has been named pace bowling consultant, Patel has been appointed a spin bowling consultant for only the second and third Tests. The first Test against the green shirts is scheduled for August 5 at Manchester.

England, who are looking to make their way to the top in the ICC World Test championship, engage with Pakistan in a 3-match series with the other two Tests being held at Southampton on 13 and 21 August respectively. Joe Root is all geared up to lead the England side after a recent series win over the West Indies while Azhar Ali is leading the Pakistan side.

Jonathan Trott’s England career

Trott, who was a lynchpin in the English batting lineup for most of his career, scored almost 19,000 first-class runs in his career, marking his international debut in 2009 with a century against Australia. He racked up a ton in a home Ashes victory suggesting the arrival of a special talent.

He was named as the Wisden Cricketer of the year and ICC’s player of the year both in 2011. He was a part of the prestigious England side that became the number one Test team in the world.

Citing stress and anxiety, Trott left England’s Ashes tour of Australia in November 2013, with the intention of taking a break from all forms of cricket. With a failed attempt to comeback, struggling in the series against West Indies, he retired from all international cricket on 4 May 2015. He scored 3,835 runs at an average of 44.08 in Test Cricket. He also averaged 51.25 from 68 one-day internationals.
