He left the field after being hit on his finger.
Team India is dominating the ongoing Trent Bridge Test at the moment as the duo of Virat Kohli and Cheteshwar Pujara is wearing down the opposition. The first session went wicketless for England and they also had to deal with an injury to their wicketkeeper Jonny Bairstow who was hit on the finger while collecting the ball of the bowling of James Anderson. He was also sent to the hospital soon as he was grimacing in pain and walked off the field.
However, the official Twitter handle of England Cricket has informed that Bairstow has fractured his left middle finger and the time of healing of a broken finger is generally four to six weeks according to Michael Vaughan. “That could be the end of Jonny Bairstow’s series. Generally, a broken finger is four to six weeks,” he was quoted as saying by BBC. Though there is nothing official on how much time it will take for him to recover.
A severe blow for England
England are dealt with a severe blow with an injury to their in-form batsman. Jonny Bairstow was the highest run-getter for them with 206 runs in 5 innings. He has also scored a couple of half-centuries in the ongoing series against India and in case if he is ruled out of the series, their batting will struggle even more in the next couple of matches. It is also not clear if he will be able to bat in the second innings in the ongoing Trent Bridge Test.
The incident happened during the 40th over of the innings when Pujara left an outside the off-stump delivery. The ball though swung a bit more after passing the stumps and hit his finger badly when Bairstow went to gather it in his gloves. He immediately left the field and is now sitting in the balcony with a dejected face knowing the consequences of his injury. Jos Buttler has currently taken over the wicketkeeping duties.
