Jos Buttler gets four runs with a reverse scoop shot
Buttler scored another half century and played a crucial part in his team's victory.
England’s Jos Buttler is having a blast playing for the Sydney Thunder at the Big Bash League this season. Today, playing against the Perth Scorchers, in Sydney, the wicketkeeper-batsman hit his third half-century of the summer. Buttler (55) and Callum Ferguson (42) helped Sydney Thunder post a total of 142 for 6. One particular shot from the knock that stood out was his reverse scoop.
It was a length ball from Perth Scorchers pacer Nathan Coulter-Nile angled towards Buttler, he waited for it to come towards him having already read the length ball and understood the line. He waited till the end and made the best out of it. He plunged his shoulders to provide the ball just enough lift and pushed it over the short third man region. It travelled to the boundary and got him four runs.
He was batting on 47 and with that boundary also got to his half century. It was a really smart shot and actually nothing the bowler or the fielding team could’ve done about it. Not just the bowler, even the commentators were of the opinion that his execution was so good that this kind of a shot shouldn’t be legal (in a lighter sense).
Here is the video of Buttler’s bizarre reverse scoop:
Buttler tried again to create a quirky shot when he was on 55 he attempted a reverse sweep off Jhye Richardson. While doing so, he only managed to collect his own stumps with the bat to be out hit wicket.
Speaking about the reverse sweep shot Jos Buttler said, “Not the best (way to get out), probably have to work on it. When he bowls slower balls, I felt like was a good option.”
“I’m not sure how I (play the reverse pull shot) sometimes. But it’s a fun part of the game, trying to evolve and keep upping your skill level,” he told Fox Sports after the dismissal. “It’s a part of the game I enjoy and trying to pull on as many options as you can,” the Englishman added.
Meanwhile, Synder Thunder clinched a one-run victory against the Perth Scorchers and Callum Ferguson has been adjudged as the Player of the match for his 30-ball 42.
