The Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) season five might still be a few months away but the preparations are in full swing to make the upcoming edition a memorable one. The season will reintroduce a team based in Sylhet, named Surma Sixers, whereas, Jupiter Ghosh and Sanwar Hossian will not be allowed to be involved in any way with the BPL this time.

BPL follows the path of IPL

Last year, a probe had been launched into an allegation and Jupiteralleged that team manager, Sanwar Hossain had asked him to fix the match results just before the start of the fourth edition. However, the player was accused of taking a girl into his hotel room without the consent of his team manager.

Due to this act, Ghosh will not be allowed to take part in the fifth edition and Ismail Haider Mallik confirmed the authenticity of the news saying, “Jupiter Ghosh’s name won’t be added into the player list.”

The BPL, modelled on the glitzy and lucrative Indian Premier League (IPL), has been blighted with fixing rows ever since its initiation in 2012. Following the grounds and to set an example, Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has also asked team manager Sanwar Hossain to stay away from all the activities of Rangpur Rider.

“During the fixing controversy of first BPL, Sanwar was accused and even in the last season, there were some complaints against him too. So, we have decided to disallow him from any kind of BPL activities,” Ismail Haider concluded.

Turning five

The tournament will feature new International faces and is expected to have the big guns from all the cricketing nations join their respective teams. BPL is a major event in Bangladesh as the fans back their teams especially the local performers along with the overseas stars.
