Kamran Akmal and Wahab Riaz disappointed over World Cup snub
"It seems like I am performing outside the country,"- Kamran.
A few days ago, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) announced the national squad for the most-awaited World Cup, scheduled to get underway on Thursday, May 30 in England and Wales. There were a few notable exclusions from the squad and a few of them have also expressed their displeasure over not being selected despite performing well in the domestic circuit.
Two of them were wicketkeeper-batsman Kamran Akmal and left-arm seamer Wahab Riaz. Akmal rued the chance of missing out on the selection and also said that the likes of Wahab, Fawad Alam and Mohammad Irfan have been constantly neglected by the selectors. “It seems like I am performing outside the country,” Kamran was quoted as saying in Geo News.
Previously, Kamran also spoke about his younger brother Umar, who also couldn’t make the cut for the mega event. Umar made his Pakistan comeback after a gap of two years in the five-match ODI series against Australia and he played reasonably well. However, he missed the bus for the World Cup. Kamran’s last international appearance was back in April 2017 against the Windies.
Wahab Riaz shows his agony
Riaz also expressed disappointment over the matter. “There are good times and bad times in cricket. Whenever I get the opportunity to play for the national side I will perform,” Riaz was quoted as saying. When asked about the reason behind his exclusion, Riaz asked the reporters to pose the question to the selection committee. Riaz last played limited-overs cricket for Pakistan way back in October 2018.
He also mentioned that the Eoin Morgan-captained England team seem to be the strongest for the World Cup, but didn’t count Pakistan out of the tournament. Pakistan, captained by Sarfaraz Ahmed, are set to play their first match against the Windies on Friday, May 31 at the Trent Bridge in Nottingham.
