The discarded Pakistan cricketer Kamran Akmal has scored a sensational double-century in the ongoing domestic One-Day Cup in the country. He was representing Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) and his knock helped his team chase a stiff target against Habib Bank Limited. The innings surely bodes well for him as it will remind the selectors of him who has ignored him time and again. However, he has become the third Pakistani cricketer now to hit three double-centuries in List-A cricket.
Kamran Akmal scored 200 off 148 deliveries while opening the innings for WAPDA and was unfortunate not to finish the game for his team. He was dismissed with only eight runs required for victory. Akmal, before going back to the dressing room, had smashed as many as 27 fours and four maximums on his way to a memorable feat. His stellar knock helped WAPDA seal the game with 11 balls to spare and seven wickets in hand. The target of 315 was easily chased as his teammates hailed a stupendous show on the 22 yards.
What happened earlier in the game?
Habib Bank Limited won the toss and chose to bat at Niaz Stadium in Hyderabad. Ahmed Shehzad who has been dropped recently from Pakistan ODI squad for New Zealand tour slammed a century after they lost a couple of early wickets. But then Imran Farhat joined him as both added 165 runs for the third wicket. Their good work was carried forward by the middle-order batsmen Rameez Aziz and Zohaib Khan who stitched a partnership of 102 runs in quick time. Their stand helped Habib Bank Limited post 314 in 47 overs.
In reply, WAPDA rode onto the double ton from their opener Kamran Akmal who was well supported by the skipper Salman Butt at the top. They slammed 139 for the opening wicket as the latter was dismissed for a run-a-ball 59. Zahid Mansoor was soon dismissed for a duck which stuttered the chase a bit but Akmal had nothing to do with the happenings at the end. He was in the zone on the day and won the game single-handedly for his team.
