Following the 53-run loss at the hands of the Indian team in the first T20 International, Kane Williamson was all praises for the Indians who put up a splendid all-round display in the first match. While most of the attention was garnered by Ashish Nehra who was playing his farewell international game. The Men in Blue had their foot on the pedal throughout the game.

Kiwi skipper Kane Williamson lauded the Indian pace duo of Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Jasprit Bumrah for their impeccable bowling. He pointed at the facets of the game where New Zealand lost out, also making a mention about the tough conditions at the Feroz Shah Kotla.

Indian side played really well in all departments

Giving an insight of the playing condition, Williamson described how it had been difficult for the players to prepare and how they were coping with it.

“The conditions are tough to prepare but given the experience within our side, we’re certainly not using that as an excuse. Most of the time when you come here and play in the evening, there’s dew as there is on a number of other grounds that guys have played at,” the Black Caps skipper said.

However, he was quick to point out that the conditions were no excuse for New Zealand’s poor performance in the game.

“Not going to sugarcoat it but we were below par and came up against what is a very good Indian side that played very well in all the areas,” he further added.

He also stated that the Indian team did a really good job by posting a huge total which laid the foundation for the win.

“Like I mentioned, we were outplayed in all the areas, fielding included, which is something we pride ourselves on and something we need to be much better at in Twenty20 cricket. That made the difference as we saw today that proved to be vital in a lot of ways. Guys went on to score big scores for their side in the Indian team and 200 on that surface was a very big total,” Kane said.

Bhuvi and Bumrah are the most consistent bowlers in world cricket

He didn’t stop at just lauding the Indian batsmen. Speaking about the pace attack duo of Jasprit Bumrah and Bhuvneshwar Kumar, he thoroughly appreciated how they bowled so well on the Indian pitches that are not known to aid the pacers.

“I guess the other side of that coin is when the bowling side is on top and they’re able to hit the wicket and use the surface like we saw Bumrah and the others in their bowling attack, which was very difficult,” he mentioned.

Having represented the Sun Risers Hyderabad in IPL, Williamson pointed that it wasn’t the first time he witnessed them bowl like that.

“We’ve seen Bhuvi and Bumrah throughout not just the one-dayers, but for a long time in the IPL. I’ve been fortunate to play with Bhuvi and against Bumrah and they re the most consistent bowlers in world cricket,” he said.
