Kapil Dev to ring the bell at Eden Gardens on first day of second Test

Former Indian skipper Kapil Dev will be given the honor of ringing the bell at the Eden Gardens for the first time. The Eden Gardens has gone through a complete makeover in recent times with many stands around the stadium being redone. It also remains to be one of the biggest grounds in the world with a capacity of almost 65,000.

The bell will be placed at the Eden Gardens for the first time, something that has been a tradition at the Lord’s Cricket Ground for many a year now. The Eden Gardens now becomes the second Indian stadium to have a bell after the Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium. The latter also boasts of a space-shuttle shaped press box.

The bell, which will be installed under the clock tower, will become a tradition at the Eden Gardens and will be rung before the start of play on the first day. More importantly, it will be former Indian skipper Kapil Dev who will have the honor of ringing the bell for the first time in the history of Eden Gardens cricket ground.

Avishek Dalmiya, the join-secretary of the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) announced that a host of exciting activities have been planned for the same as well as the simple fact that the ticket prices for the match have been reworked on.

“We will have dedicated areas for cricket zone, food stalls, drummers, flash mobs, caricature artists, stylist stations and a host of exciting activities to keep the crowd engaged. Prices of the season tickets have been reworked at Rs 1,000, Rs 750 and Rs 500,” CAB joint-secretary Avishek Dalmiya said.

India will play New Zealand in what will be the second Test of the four-match Test series at the iconic Eden Gardens. The Indians went one up in the series courtesy of a win in their first match at the Green Park Stadium in Kanpur. The Kiwis, however, will be hoping to draw level against a strong Indian team.
