The historic Test match between India and Afghanistan is set to get underway tomorrow at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore. While the series signifies the camaraderie between the two countries, a few heated verbal exchanges have also come to the fore prior to the awaited contest. Asghar Stanikzai previously mentioned that his spinners are superior to that of the home team’s.
The comments didn’t go down well with a couple of Indian players for the time being. Karun Nair, who made a comeback to the Test team after a year, bashed the Afghan skipper for his outrageous comments. Dinesh Karthik, the wicketkeeper-batsman, followed suit and lashed out at Stanikzai as well. He put forth the experience of the Indian spinners compared to that of the Afghans.
“Experience has a lot of value”- Karthik
“I don’t know what that person (Stanikzai) had said, but you have got to understand that we have got a lot of experience, not only in Test match cricket but also (in a) lot of domestic cricket, four day cricket. All their spinners put together wouldn’t have played that many matches that Kuldeep Yadav would have played in four-day cricket.,” Karthik was quoted as saying by Sportstar.
However, he hailed them for their stupendous exhibition of bowling in limited-overs cricket. “Experience at the end of the day has a lot of value, as you saw with CSK in the IPL. I am very sure that they would be better bowlers by the start of the next Test match than what they are now. The kind of improvement they have shown in white ball cricket has been phenomenal,” the 33-year old mentioned
Karthik also remarked that the Afghans can shine in the white-clothing cricket as well. “There is no reason why they can’t do it in red-ball cricket. But I would say our spinners have a lot of experience and I would say experience can’t be easily bought,” Karthik added.
