South Africa head coach Russell Domingo claimed that Protean left-spinner Keshav Maharaj would be one of the best turners the team has ever produced in the future. Former South African great Shaun Pollock also believes that the best is yet to come from Maharaj.

In the recently concluded England-South Africa series, Maharaj troubled the Englishmen in the 4-Test match affair by claiming 17 wickets. After making his debut against Australia in November 2016 at Perth, the left arm orthodox spinner did not look back as he clinched 43 wickets in just 11 matches with the best figures of 6/40.

“I think Keshav is going to be the best spinner South Africa’s ever had. He’s fantastic, think of the roles he can fulfil. He’s a fantastic young bowler,” commented the coach of the South African team according to cricket.com.au. However, it was Moeen Ali‘s tally of 25 wickets in the series which stole the show as England won the Basil D’Oliveira Trophy by a margin of 3-1.

Polly feels Maharaj would be an asset in subcontinent

“He’s consistent, he’s accurate, he’s getting the ball to spin and he has been a real find for us. We’ve tried three or four different options over a period of four or five years and finally, we’ve been able to settle on someone who has really done well,” claimed Shaun Pollock according to Sky Sports.

“You just have to look at his stats to see what he has achieved in the first part of his career – he’s been really, really impressive. His major strength is just his accuracy, he’s played on some surfaces that have offered him assistance but I think the best for him is yet to come,” added Polly. He also believes that Keshav Maharaj would be an asset in the subcontinental tours. “When you take him to the subcontinent on those Indian wickets that are really turning, he’ll be a big handful,” concluded Pollock.
