The Indian team along with newly appointed head coach Ravi Shastri is training hard for the 1st Test against Sri Lanka at Galle on Wednesday. It is a big challenge for the No.1 Test side to continue their winning run in the longer format. This is perhaps a bigger challenge and also an opportunity for Shastri to showcase his guiding skills in his first assignment of an overseas tour.
Earlier, former Indian Captain Anil Kumble had resigned from the head coach’s post after an alleged rift with the Indian skipper Virat Kohli, which led to BCCI’s search for a new head coach.
The BCCI’s Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) named Ravi Shastri as the new head coach of team India on July 11. The committee also announced his tenure till the 2019 World Cup. The former all-rounder is quite familiar with the position and the players as he has been with them in the past for almost 18 months as the team director.
KP’s query for Shastri
Former England Test captain Kevin Pietersen had a question for the new head coach Shastri on the social media asking the Indian, “Head coach again buddy?” However, Ravi Shastri has not yet replied to the query. The big-hitting batsman KP has played a lot of cricket in India during the IPL and also representing England. Recently, KP and Shastri were both seen on commentary during the IPL 10.

Shastri is a fabulous person
Indian team off-spinner Ravi Ashwin is all set and ready for the 1st Test which will also be his 50th Test appearance. He stated Ravi Shastri as the most positive person in the dressing room.
“I saw that question coming (smiles). We are past that moment, the decision has been made and the decision is not something that I can really comment on. But Ravi bhai has been a fabulous person to have in the dressing room. The last time we were here and we lost the Test in Galle, he was the one who picked us up from that low point of our careers. He is someone who can have a really positive influence in the dressing room. We are looking forward to working together,” he said.

Shastri’s achievements
Ravi Shastri has had a good time with the boys in the past. He guided the Men in Blue to the semi–final of the World Cup 2015 and the T20 World Cup 2016 in India. He also inspired the young as well as the experienced troops to become the first team to whitewash Australia in Australia by beating them in the T20 series 3-0. Shastri is known to have a good bonding with the current Indian skipper Virat Kohli as compared to the former coach Anil Kumble.
