Kieron Pollard pulls off a breathtaking one-handed stunner to dismiss Suresh Raina
Even Raina couldn't believe what had just happened.
If catches win matches then Mumbai Indians definitely deserve to end up on the winning side in the ongoing game against defending champions Chennai Super Kings at the Wankhede Stadium. The fixture between two of the most successful teams of the league has rarely disappointed in the last years and the game has also lived up to expectations. And it would not be entirely wrong to say that Kieron Pollard put the icing on the cake in this contest by pulling off a catch that can very well become the catch of the season.
Chasing 170, the Super Kings were off to a disastrous start. They lost both their openers – Shane Watson and Ambati Rayudu – with just six runs on the board. Kedar Jadhav and Suresh Raina then joined hands to bail their team out of the trouble. The duo did manage to stop the fall of wickets for a while before Mumbai Indians skipper Rohit Sharma and Jason Behrendorff devised a plan to get the better of Raina.
Rohit made Pollard stand at sweeper cover and left the rest to Behrendorff. The Australian pacer then bowled a wide and short delivery according to plan and Raina fell for it quite easily. The highest-ever run scorer in the IPL slashed the short ball hard towards the sweeper cover where Pollard was waiting for it. However, there was still a lot to be done as the ball was travelling fast and was well above Pollard.
But the West Indies star, who has taken some breathtaking catches in the previous seasons of IPL, pulled off another stunner to leave Raina dumbfounded. The big man timed his jump to perfection and held the catch with his right hand before tumbling down on the floor to send Raina packing for 16.
Here is the clip of that world-class catch from Kieron Pollard:
