Find the full list of players of Kolkata Knight Riders for the upcoming edition of IPL.
The Kolkata Knight Riders were probably the quietest teams at the IPL 2021 auction. There weren’t too many players who they bid for through the day. But, late in the day, KKR went on a shopping spree making some really important buys. These were the buys that they made after the players were initially unsold. In addition, KKR were successful in getting back some of their former Knights.
Shakib Al Hasan was bought by KKR for INR 3.2 crores. This will be the second time that the Bangladesh all-rounder will play for the franchise. He had been picked by KKR in the 2011 IPL auction. He played seven seasons for the franchise between 2011 and 2017. After that, Sunrisers Hyderabad had bought the services of the star all-rounder in the 2018 auction.
Sheldon Jackson was another smart buy that KKR made at the auction, whom they bought for his base price of INR 20 lakhs. The wicketkeeper-batsman had previously had two stints with the franchise. He had been signed by the franchise for the 2009 and 2010 seasons. After that, he had been bought again in 2015 and stayed with the side till the 2017 season.
Kolkata bought veteran off-spinner Harbhajan Singh at his base price of INR 2 crores. He had not featured in the previous season as he wanted to stay back with his family during the COVID-19. This will be his third IPL team after Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings.
Karun Nair was bought at his base price of INR 50 lakhs. Kolkata also got an absolute deal when they bought Australian all-rounder Ben Cutting for his base price of INR 75 lakhs. He was the man of the match in the 2016 IPL final when he helped Sunrisers Hyderabad to win their maiden title. KKR also bought Himachal Pradesh fast bowler Vaibhav Arora, who had a great Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy season where he picked up 10 wickets from six matches.
The last two picks of the IPL auction for KKR were all-rounders Pawan Negi and Venkatesh Iyer. Negi, who has played T20I cricket for India had previously been with Royal Challengers Bangalore. He was bought at a base price of INR 50 lakhs. Iyer, on the other hand, is a Madhya Pradesh all-rounder who bowls medium pace unlike Negi, who is a spinner. Iyer was also bought at his base price of INR 20 lakhs.
