KL Rahul expresses his desire to score a century at Lord's
"It's a challenge for everyone and we have a month to prepare," Rahul conceded.
Indian batsman KL Rahul is in a tremendous form with the bat. The Karnataka lad aggregated 655 runs in the 2018 edition of the Indian Premier League. Playing for the Kings XI Punjab this season, Rahul hit the fastest fifty of the IPL history in his very first outing for the team. He was the lone ranger with the bat for his side in the competition. He has been in the news for all reasons in the recent past. The IPL is done and dusted and KL Rahul has now set his sights on doing well for the Indian team.
The next major assignment of the Indian team will be the tour of England. In a recent conversation with India TV, Rahul revealed his dream of scoring a century at the Lord’s. He noted that the series will be a very big one for the Indian team and he hopes to help his side register big wins on the tour. Team India’s second Test on the tour will be played at the iconic venue of Lord’s.
“England tour is going to be a huge series, a make or break series for individuals especially, and it’s my first tour there. It will be a massive challenge for me and since the start it has been one of my dreams to play at the Lords, how would it feel to play at that iconic stadium,” Rahul told IndiaTV during “Cricket Ki Baat” show.
Recalling the historic moment
KL Rahul also recalled the iconic NatWest Tri-series finals of 2002. India had beaten England by 2 wickets in the game. Mohammad Kaif and Yuvraj Singh had become overnight heroes with their match winning performances. Also, the then Indian skipper Sourav Ganguly’s shirt removing scene got etched in the minds of the Indian cricket lovers.
“I remember seeing Yuvi and Kaif winning the NatWest finals for India, Sourav Ganguly taking off his shirt and whirling it around. It’s a challenge for everyone and we have a month to prepare, use the time to work out and plan how to be successful there,” he recalled.
Get a name on the Honors board
The venue of Lord’s is revered as the ‘Mecca of Cricket’. No wonder why KL Rahul wishes to excel there. He wants to his name etched on the iconic Honors Board at the Lord’s.
“When I got my first hundred, they write the name over there on the board, it was an emotional moment. Be it anywhere in India, having my name inscribed on the board was a special moment for me. Lord’s is an iconic venue and for many cricketers there is no other place than to perform there,” he said.
