The celebrated rivalry between India and Australia have witnessed quite a number of controversies in the past. With so much at stake in this contest, players from either sides rarely give the opposition an inch on the field. And sometimes it leads to players crossing the fine line between being competitive and being fair. The ongoing series has also seen its fair shares of controversies. Peter Handscomb’s controversial catch to dismiss Virat Kohli in the Perth Test is one such example.

However, on Saturday, India star KL Rahul showed the way ahead with remarkable sportsmanship, thus showing that cricket is still a gentlemen’s game. The India star, who has faced the flak in recent times for his woeful run with the bat, signaled that the ball had bounced before he caught the ball while trying to take a tough catch. The incident had occurred in the fifteenth over of Australia’s first innings when their opener Marcus Harris miscued a fuller delivery from Ravindra Jadeja towards mid-on.

Rahul came running in and dived across to catch the ball. At first, it seemed he had completed a stunner as Jadeja ran towards him to celebrate. But Rahul was quick to signal that the catch was not clean before the replays showed he was right. It was an incredible moment and even the crowd and umpire Ian Gould acknowledged it by applauding the Indian star for his honesty.

Here is a clip of that incident:

Australia start strongly:

After conceding a mammoth 622 for 7 in the first innings, Australia have started their innings on a strong note. Starting the third day on 24 for no loss, Usman Khawaja and Harris shared a 72-run stand before the former departed for 27. Harris and Marnus Labuschagne then ensured that the hosts do not lose any more wicket in the first session. But, later in the second session, they lost four wickets and at tea, Australia were 198 for 5.
