Knight Riders-Mumbai Indians tie under threat due to persistent rain
It will be a very important game for Kolkata.
The all-important clash between the Mumbai Indians and the Kolkata Knight Riders might be under threat as the city of Joy Kolkata has been struck by cyclonic rain and thunderstorm. It has started raining from the afternoon and it hasn’t stopped till now. Though it is not heavy but it is persistent. The covers are still on and the match might be delayed.
Despite the thundershowers, the match is expected to go according to plan as the full ground is covered. Former Team India selector Samboran Banerjee conceded that despite the rain it won’t have any bearing on the match. He felt that the toss might be critical as it has been raining for quite a while and team bowling first will hold a clear edge over their oppositions.
It is a must win encounter for KKR if they harbour of hope of finishing the league stage at the top 2. There has been a huge change in Eden Gardens after a T20I match between India and South Africa was washed out in the city a couple of years back. It was a mere half and hour rain in the afternoon which prevented a single ball being bowled in the match.
CAB have ensured proper measure is taken
Since then every possible measure has been taken to ensure rain doesn’t play spoilsport and the match can resume as soon as the rain relents. Meanwhile, Kolkata will look to come all guns blazing after losing a couple on a trot. Mumbai have also lost two consecutive matches and will look to get back to winning ways before the playoffs.
Mumbai is way ahead of Kolkata in the head to head record with the Blue Brigade defeating the Bengal Tigers 14 times in the 19 matches played between the two teams. Despite their superior record, KKR will be no pushovers and will give Mumbai a run for their money. Now let us sit and pray that the match begins at the scheduled time.
