Kohli bhai made me comfortable, even spoke with me in Marathi: Prithvi Shaw
"I think he is a really funny guy off the field."
India’s recent batting sensation, Prithvi Shaw, who is all set to make his Test debut against the Windies in the first Test of the series at Rajkot, is undoubtedly in good space ahead of his maiden appearance for India.
The youngster is slated to open the innings for India after he was preferred over Mayank Agarwal for the opening slot alongside KL Rahul. Shaw, who received his maiden Test call-up for the last two Test matches against England, didn’t make it to the playing XI in either of the games but will get his due chance in the series opener in Rajkot.
Kohli is quite a funny guy off the field
Talking about his bonding with the guys in the team, he talked about how skipper Virat Kohli made him relaxed and even tried his hand in Marathi to make him felt at home.
“I think he is a really funny guy off the field. On the field, we all know he is very tough. I just spoke to him he cracked some jokes, he was just trying to speak Marathi which was really funny,” Prithvi told ‘bcci.tv’. “He (Virat) helped me out and made me feel comfortable.”
Shaw wasn’t hesitant as he shared his feelings and the approach before his first game at the senior level. “I have no plan (in nets) I just went with a blank mind. I don’t like to get out when I am batting in the nets. I had a throwdown session with Sanjay Bangar, everything was good in practice,” he mentioned.
A bit nervous, admits the debutant
The 18-year old prodigy, who has already done wonders at the domestic level, admitted to a sense of nervousness before playing for India. He reckons to have a few butterflies in the belly, which is pretty understandable for every individual before the big game.
“I am feeling very good, a bit nervous, but when I came to the dressing room everyone like…over here there is no senior and junior Virat bhai and Ravi sir told me, and it felt really nice, “he said. “Ravi sir told me to enjoy the game, he said ‘play the way you play in Ranji trophy and the way you have been playing all these years’. Getting the Test cap is a great feeling.”
