Krishnamachari Srikkanth expresses concern over India’s over-dependence on Virat Kohli
The Men in Blue will be hoping for their prolific run-scorer to carry on his rich vein of form in the upcoming games.
Virat Kohli has emerged as one of India’s greatest batsmen in modern-day cricket. The Delhi-born cricketer has haemorrhaged runs in all formats of the game and subsequently, he has smashed several records. Such has been his dominance that his batting drawn comparisons with the legendary Sachin Tendulkar almost every time he steps out.
In the ongoing One-Day International series between India and South Africa, Kohli has managed to notch a couple of stupendous centuries in the first three matches. Meanwhile, he has also racked up his 34th century in the 50-overs format. However, Krishnamachari Srikkanth, the former Indian cricketer, expressed his concerns over India’s over-dependence on the current Indian skipper.
Praises for Kohli, concerns for India
In a recent interaction with the media, Srikanth talked about India’s performance when Kohli succeeds and fails respectively. “As much I have enjoyed the commanding performance of India, I am also concerned on the over-dependence on Kohli. The batting is failing to click as a unit and that’s a cause for concern. The moment the skipper has a bad game this team looks completely different,” he was quoted as saying by TOI.
The former Indian chairman of selectors also hailed Kohli’s commitment and dedication towards the game to the reputed news journal. “The last two decades have seen some of India’s most committed cricketers. Top of that list would be Tendulkar, Dravid and Kumble. In my opinion, Kohli is right up there with the best when it comes to commitment. The pride in performance is extraordinary,” he added
India have won three games on the trot in the ODI series riding on Kohli’s masterclass with the willow. Meanwhile, the Indian team has also surpassed South Africa as the top-ranked side in the 50-overs format. The Men in Blue will be hoping for their prolific run-scorer to carry on his rich vein of form in the upcoming games.
