KRK adds fuel to fire in Yuvraj Singh and MS Dhoni’s age-old alleged rift
Yuvraj recently announced his retirement from international cricket.
There is absolutely no doubt that MS Dhoni and Yuvraj Singh have been two of the indefatigable troopers of Indian cricket for over a decade. Even as the 37-year-old Dhoni is still active at the international circuit, Yuvraj announced his retirement a couple of days ago, bringing an end to a 19-year long career. Even as Dhoni made his debut in 2004 versus Bangladesh, Yuvraj started in 2000 against Kenya.
Both enigmatic cricketers plied their trade in the middle-order and created a lot of headaches for the opposition teams. However, while Dhoni is going through a dream-run run for the Indian team, Yuvraj didn’t quite have the best of ending to his otherwise illustrious career. Yuvi last donned the national colours after the 2017 Champions Trophy when India toured the West Indies for a bilateral series.
The duo also celebrated wins and achievements inside the stadium with bike-rides. However, amidst their healthy camaraderies, reports surrounding their souring relationship did the rounds. After Yuvraj became the Player of the Tournament in the 2011 edition of the World Cup, he was entangled by the deadly disease of cancer, something which almost brought the curtains down on his career.
Yuvraj Singh’s tough times
Yuvraj didn’t play ODI cricket from December 2013 to January 2017 and it was only after Dhoni stepped down from the limited-overs captaincy that he was able to make his comeback. On a number of instances, Yuvi has distanced himself from his father and maintained that there was no rift with Dhoni. Meanwhile, Yograj Singh, Yuvraj’s father has lashed out at Dhoni many times.
He called Dhoni as ‘arrogant’ and said that the wicketkeeper will suffer one day. Even after retirement, Yuvraj didn’t have anything to say about Dhoni. In the meantime, Kamaal Rashid Khan, the Indian film actor and a self-proclaimed critic, said that nothing’s right between Yuvraj and Dhoni. He also called their enmity as a deep one.
He took to Twitter and wrote, “Yuvraj Singh didn’t say anything about Dhoni at the time of his retirement neither Dhoni said anything. Means Dushmani Gahari Bhi Hai Aur Purani Bhi (Their enmity is deep and old as well).”
