Krunal Pandya comes up with an incredible gesture for hospitalised ex-India cricketer Jacob Martin
Cricketers, former and present, have come together to help the ex-batsman in his battle with life.
Help continues to pour in for former India and Baroda batsman Jacob Martin who is fighting for his life in hospital. The latest cricketer to come forward to Martin’s aid is none other than India allrounder Krunal Pandya. Martin was admitted in hospital after he met with an unfortunate accident on December 28. The accident saw him sustaining serious injuries to his liver and lungs. Since then he has been on a ventilator.
However, Martin’s treatment in the hospital hit a major roadblock due to lack of funds. His family has since appealed to the cricketing community to help raise funds for his treatment and the cricketing fraternity has responded brilliantly. The Board of Control for Cricket in India has provided Martin with Rs 5 lakhs while the Baroda Cricket Association has contributed Rs 3 lakhs.
Sanjay Patel, the former BCCI and BCA secretary, has taken the onus on himself to arrange the funds. He has now received a blank cheque from Krunal. The Baroda star, in an incredible gesture, also made it clear that the amount filled in the cheque should not be less than Rs 1 lakh.
“Sir, please fill up whatever is needed, but nothing less than Rs 1 lakh,” Krunal told Patel, as quoted by The Telegraph.
Cricketers come to Martin’s aid
Cricketers, former and present, have come together to help the ex-batsman in his battle with life. Recently, former India skipper Sourav Ganguly, under whom Martin made his international debut, said that he is ready to do whatever is needed to help his former teammate.
“Martin and I have been teammates and I remember him as a quiet, introvert-type of person. While praying for Martin’s speedy recovery, I’d like his family to know that they don’t stand alone,” Ganguly told The Telegraph.
Apart from Ganguly, the likes Ravi Shastri, Irfan Pathan, Yusuf Pathan, Zaheer Khan, and Munaf Patel have also extended a helping hand to Martin.
