The chinaman Kuldeep Yadav was making his third appearance in an Indian jersey after making his debut for the national team in the deciding Test against Australia, in the long Indian summer. It was the second time that the Chinaman took the field for Team India in the limited-overs format, after making his debut in the first ODI against Windies.

In the second match, it was Ajinkya Rahane and Kuldeep Yadav’s masterclass that saw the Indian side prevail against the hosts in a 43-over per side encounter at the Port of Spain. While the right-handed Rahane slammed his 3rd ODI century, Yadav picked up three wickets in his quota of overs, giving away under six runs an over.

Chasing a mammoth total, the Windies team never looked to be in a position to prevail in the chase, with the openers failing to provide the platform for the rest of the team to build on. During the back end of the innings, the Windies batters were left to chase something way beyond their capabilities. The asking rate at the end of the innings was too high for Jason Holder & Co. to chase down.

Shai Hope was the only hope for Windies

The Chinaman picked up the important wickets of Shai Hope, who was batting on 81 and looking dangerous enough to take the tie towards the Windies. After the big fish, Kuldeep followed it up with the wicket of Elvin Lewis, thanks to a smart piece of glove-work from MS Dhoni.

Holder’s wicket would go down as one of the best wickets in the match, with Yadav drawing the batsman forward to drive. The Windies captain skipped down the track to hit the ball high down the ground, only to find his stumps rearranged by a calm and composed glove of MS Dhoni.
