MS Dhoni is back in Team India but in a different role. The former Indian captain is set to mentor the national team in the upcoming high-voltage T20 World Cup 2021. Dhoni, who led the Men in Blue in all the previous editions of the T20 World Cup, has a plethora of experience behind his back. Moreover, he’s is well versed with the atmosphere of this team and it will be interesting to see how his tenure pans out.
For the unversed, the Board of Control of Cricket in India (BCCI) confirmed this major news on Wednesday night (September 9) while announcing the 15-man squad for the gala tournament. While several players received shocking call-ups, there were some notable exclusions as well. Yuzvendra Chahal and Shikhar Dhawan were the biggest names to have faced the axe.
The duo has been a regular face in India’s T20I team for a while and hence, their omission raised several eyebrows. At the same time, the likes of Ravichandran Ashwin and Axar Patel got call-ups after a long time. Hence, it will be interesting to see if this team can get the glory or not.
MS Dhoni took India to the inaugural T20 World Cup
Dhoni’s inclusion is expected to have a major effect as the wicketkeeper-batter is one of the sharpest thinkers of the game. Not to forget, it was Dhoni only who took India to the title in the inaugural T20 World Cup in 2007. He also led India in the next five editions and earned a considerable amount of success. Although he won’t take the field on this occasion, the effect of his words and advice is hidden from none.
Hence, Indian skipper Virat Kohli has an apt person to share his burden. It has to be noted the 2021 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) will conclude days before the T20 World Cup. With the Indian tournament taking place in UAE, MS Dhoni can assess the conditions accurately during his stint with the Chennai Super Kings (CSK). With the wicketkeeper bringing so much in picture, Twitterati went into a celebratory mood after getting the news. While several were left shocked, many expressed their delight.
Here’s how Twitterati reacted to MS Dhoni’s appointment as mentor!

Great to see @msdhoni once again involved with Indian cricket but can anyone tell me the difference between a coach and a mentor of a cricket team? #Dhoni
