The Australia ball-tampering fiasco has been grabbing the headlines for quite a while now. Steve Smith, David Warner and Cameron Bancroft has been slapped with punishments following the debacle. Australian Chief Executive Officer (CEO) James Sutherland announced the sanctions against the players a couple of days ago which has sent shockwaves across the nation.

Meanwhile, Darren Lehmann, the head coach of the national team has also decided to resign from his position after the fourth and final Test. However, Lalit Modi, the ex-commissioner of the Indian Premier League (IPL) isn’t happy with Sutherland and has released an open threat mentioning that he would be targeted in the future as per reports in mid-day.

“You will go down”- Modi

Modi also mentioned N Srinivasan, the former president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), name in his message. “You will go down. I can tell u now on your face. I am starting a movement to get rid of last of Srini (ex-BCCI president N Srinivasan) cronies. I don’t stab from the back. I am telling u in advance. U will be under tremendous scrutiny. Crooks like u. Need to be dealt with,” he affirmed.

The former chairman also feels that the verdict against Smith, Bancroft and Warner was harsh. Meanwhile, he also vowed to get Sutherland into trouble for his actions in order to ‘clean the game’. “It took me 8 years to get rid of all crooks in India. I am a patient man. You are next target. As u know you are bad for cricket. Not personal. But the game needs cleaning,” Modi added.

The Test series between South Africa and Australia has been marred by criticisms thus far. However, there are absolutely no doubts that the series has been a witness to some riveting cricketing. Meanwhile, the public and the cricketing fraternity would be hoping for a smooth conduct of the final Test at the Wanderers in Johannesburg.
