Delhi had an impressive stint in the 2017-18 edition of the Ranji Trophy. They were placed in Group A and managed to win three out of six matches. Gradually, they also qualified for the final of the tournament. Unfortunately, the team captained by Rishabh Pant lost by nine wickets to Vidarbha, who won their maiden title in the championship.
Recently, the team has appointed Lance Klusener, the 46-year old former South African all-rounder, as their consultant coach for the upcoming season. Mithun Manhas, the former Delhi captain, will be the chief coach. In the meantime, Rajat Sharma, the president of Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA), updated about the high profile recruitment.
“Lance Klusner will be Cricket Consultant of Ranji Team of DCCA for One-day tournaments starting from 19th September ( Vijay Hazare trophy and Deodhar Trophy) and domestic T20 tournament scheduled in February 2019. His role will require his services along side the main coach and all the other coaches in the team,” Sharma was quoted as saying in Firstpost.

One of South Africa’s legendary cricketers
Klusener is one of the legendary all-rounders the Proteas have ever produced. He made his debut back in 1996 and his career spanned eight years. The veteran played 49 Tests and 171 ODIs in which he notched 1906 and 3576 runs respectively. He also has six centuries at the international level. With the ball, he was no mug as he picked up 80 and 192 wickets in Tests and ODIs respectively.
He was also safe as houses in the outfield. The Natal-born cricketer last donned the national colours in the ODI against the Windies in the 2004 Champions Trophy in England. Klusener last played a competitive match when he represented the Sachin’s Blasters in their match against the Warne’s Warriors in Houston back in November 2015. He scored 21 runs and picked up two wickets in the encounter in the United States.
