Lance Klusener, the batting coach of the Zimbabwe side has stated that Zimbabwe were perhaps 80 odd runs short from the accepted par score. The former South African all-rounder also added that there is a bundle of talent in the squad.

Zimbabwe was blown away by what seemed to be second string Indian pace attack. Jasprit Bumrah claimed four wickets while KL Rahul smashed a wonderful century as the Indians claimed an  impressive 9-wicket win in the first ODI.

“I think it’s a matter of making sure that we find a balance of how everybody fits in and how we want to play. There’s no doubting the talent there. We might just have to feel our way into the next week or so but I am sure we will settle in as soon as we can,” Klusener said in the post-match press conference.

Lance Klusener also added that had the batsmen applied themselves, they would have forced a few partnerships on the Indians.

“I think we were at least 80 runs short of where we’d have liked to have been. Had we applied ourselves and maybe got a few partnerships would’ve maybe at least forced them to try and play a little bit differently. They might have still got there but at least we would’ve been able to create a few more chances,” Klusener opined.

“I thought the opposition bowled reasonably well. Let’s give the boys a little bit of slack and hopefully we can grow from here,” Klusener said.

“We kind of want to draw a line in the sand from the way Zimbabwe have played in the past. We just need to find our balance, how we’re going to play. It’s a tough team to do that against but nonetheless, we’ll be more prepared from the batting point of view hopefully from next game.” he concluded
