One of the major highlights, though not on the brighter side, of this edition of the IPL has been the list of injured players. Yuvraj Singh was the first big name to be in the injured list with Mitchell Starc and Samuel Badree. The Rising Pune Supergiants could be termed as apparently the most affected side as four of their leading players bowed out of the season due to injuries. This makes one wonder, is the IPL 2016 an Injured Premier League? And looking at the overall injury list at the halfway stage, the total count is 13, of which 11 have flown back home.

The fiery Sri Lankan pacer is the leading wicket taker in the IPL history and has been one of the key players for the two-time IPL champions Mumbai Indians. Lasith Malinga was ruled out due a ‘substantial knee injury’ that he picked up during the West Indies tour to Sri Lanka last year. He was subsequently ruled out of World T20 too. However, reports suggested that fast bowler could make a comeback in the IPL. The Sri Lankan board later announced that he would be out of action for next 12 weeks. He was replaced by Jerome Taylor.

RCB have been facing bowling woes this season and had this player been in their side, the story could have been different. Mitchell Starc was ruled out of IPL following an ankle injury that he sustained during the first-ever day-night Test against New Zealand last year. He was slated to return by April but later ruled out of the IPL since he had not fully recovered. RCB then called up English all-rounder Chris Jordan as his replacement.

India’s middle-order batsman Yuvraj Singh picked up an ankle injury during India’s T20 World Cup match against Australia. He was seen in pain during the match and was later ruled out of the World Cup. Subsequently, SRH coach Tom Moody announced that the left-handed batsman would be out of action for the first two weeks of the IPL. The good thing here is, Yuvi has been working hard, and is slated to make his comeback on the 6th of May.

Australian fast bowler Joel Paris was ruled out of IPL 2016 due to a shin injury. Paris had been hoping to make his IPL debut this season after being purchased by Delhi Daredevils for his base price of INR 30 lakh. However, his home state of Western Australia confirmed that Paris had been withdrawn after suffering a shin stress reaction during a Sheffield Shield game against South Australia in Perth early last month.

The RCB management signed up Samuel Badree during the auctions this year in a bid to strengthen their powerplay bowling. They were surely left disappointed as Badree was ruled out of the IPL due a shoulder injury. Mumbai Indians opener Lendl Simmons played the season opener against the Rising Pune Supergiants but had to bow out after that. It was a back injury that ruled him out of IPL 2016. Interestingly, earlier, he wasn&#8217;t a part of the West Indies squad for the World T20 due to the same injury but had later recovered. Left-arm pacer Ashish Nehra suffered a groin injury after Sunrisers Hyderabad played Royal Challengers Bangalore in their opening encounter this season. He missed out on four games before making his comeback against the same side at Hyderabad. Nehra later said that he was a bit rusty on his comeback and will get better as the tournament progresses. However, the good news, not just for the SRH camp but for Indian team too, Nehra is fit again.

Australian pacer John Hastings was ruled out of the IPL after playing just 2 matches this season. He was phenomenal in the first game where he took 2/6 against the Delhi Daredevils and went wicketless against the Mumbai Indians. He sustained an ankle injury which made him unavailable for the remainder of the season. What is worse for the New South Wales pacer is that he might potentially be ruled out of the West Indies tour too due to the injury.

Rising Pune Supergiants batting mainstay Kevin Pietersen had just walked at the crease in the match against Royal Challengers Bangalore when he suffered an ankle strain. He limped off the field, having faced just one delivery. Later it was confirmed that KP has been ruled for the remainder of the season due to the injury. Pietersen had a rather quite show with 83 runs in 4 matches that he played. He was the first overseas player who succumbed to an injury from the RPS side. Australian opener Usman Khawaja was named as the replacement for KP.

Rising Pune Supergiants suffered another major blow when their in-form batsman Faf du Plessis confirmed his finger injury and bowed out of IPL. Faf took to Twitter to officially confirm the news and tweeted, “And so my IPL tournament unfortunately comes to and end.Broken finger and out for 6 weeks.Thanx India and @RPSupergiants it&#8217;s been fun.” He was the second leading run-getter for the side then with 206 runs including two 60-plus scores. George Bailey has been called in as his replacement.

<strong>11. Mitch Marsh &#8211; Rising Pune Supergiants:</strong>

Australia allrounder Mitchell Marsh was been ruled out of the remainder of the IPL 2016 season with a side strain, adding to a Rising Pune Supergiants list of injuries that already included Kevin Pietersen and Faf du Plessis. Marsh played only three of Supergiants&#8217; first seven games this season, taking four wickets at an economy rate of 5.00. He batted once and made 7. Supergiants won only two of those seven games and were in the bottom half of the points table when Marsh was ruled out.

Things got from bad to worse when <strong><a href="http://www.crictracker.com/steve-smith-expresses-disappointment-on-being-ruled-out-of-ipl/" target="_blank">Steve Smith</a></strong> was ruled out of the IPL following a wrist injury. <p>Australian pacer John Hastings was ruled out of the IPL after playing just 2 matches this season. He was phenomenal in the first game where he took 2/6 against the Delhi Daredevils and went wicketless against the Mumbai Indians. <p>Rising Pune Supergiants batting mainstay Kevin Pietersen had just walked at the crease in the match against Royal Challengers Bangalore&nbsp;when he suffered an ankle strain. He limped off the field, having faced just one delivery. Later it was confirmed that KP has been ruled for the remainder of the season due to the injury. <p>Rising Pune Supergiants suffered another major blow when their in-form batsman Faf du Plessis confirmed his finger injury and bowed out of IPL. Faf took to Twitter to officially confirm the news and tweeted, “And so my IPL&nbsp;tournament unfortunately comes to and end.Broken finger and out for 6 weeks.Thanx India and @RPSupergiants&nbsp;it’s been fun.” He was the second leading run-getter for the side then with 206 runs including two 60-plus scores. George Bailey has been called in as his replacement.</p>

<p>Australia allrounder&nbsp;Mitchell Marsh&nbsp;was been ruled out of the remainder of the IPL 2016 season with a side strain, adding to a Rising Pune Supergiants list of injuries that already included Kevin Pietersen and Faf du Plessis. <p>The woes for the Kings XI Punjab continued as Shaun Marsh, one of their few batsmen in form this season, was ruled out of the remainder of the season due to a back injury. Punjab are languishing at the bottom of the points table when he left. Marsh picked up the injury in the game&nbsp;against Kolkata Knight Riders and had been carrying a niggle since. He took the field in the next game, when Kings XI&nbsp;beat Gujarat Lions, with some discomfort.&nbsp;After the match, he was ruled out. Incidentally, he had to miss KXIP’s opening game of the season too, due to food poisoning.</p>

<p>One of the major highlights, though not on the brighter side, of this edition of the IPL has been the list of injured players. Yuvraj Singh was the first big name to be in the injured list with Mitchell Starc and Samuel Badree. The Rising Pune Supergiants could be termed as apparently the most affected side as four of their leading players bowed out of the season due to injuries. This makes one wonder, is the IPL 2016 an Injured Premier League? And looking at the overall injury list at the halfway stage, the total count is 13, of which 11 have flown back home.</p>

<p>The fiery Sri Lankan pacer is the leading wicket taker in the IPL history and has been one of the key players for the two-time IPL champions Mumbai Indians. Lasith Malinga was ruled out due a ‘substantial knee injury’ that he picked up during the West Indies tour to Sri Lanka last year. He was subsequently ruled out of World T20 too. However, reports suggested that fast bowler could make a comeback in the IPL. The Sri Lankan board later announced that he would be out of action for next 12 weeks. He was replaced by Jerome Taylor.</p>

<p>RCB have been facing bowling woes this season and had this player been in their side, the story could have been different. Mitchell Starc was ruled out of IPL following an ankle injury that he sustained during the first-ever day-night Test against New Zealand last year. He was slated to return by April but later ruled out of the IPL since he had not fully recovered. RCB then called up English all-rounder Chris Jordan as his replacement.</p>

<p>India’s middle-order batsman Yuvraj Singh picked up an ankle injury during India’s T20 World Cup match against Australia. He was seen in pain during the match and was later ruled out of the World Cup. Subsequently, SRH coach Tom Moody announced that the left-handed batsman would be out of action for the first two weeks of the IPL. The good thing here is, Yuvi has been working hard, and is slated to make his comeback on the 6th of May.</p>

<p>Australian fast bowler Joel Paris was ruled out of IPL 2016 due to a shin injury. Paris had been hoping to make his IPL debut this season after being purchased by Delhi Daredevils for his base price of INR 30 lakh. However, his home state of Western Australia confirmed that Paris had been withdrawn after suffering a shin stress reaction during a Sheffield Shield game against South Australia in Perth early last month.</p>

<p>The RCB management signed up Samuel Badree during the auctions this year in a bid to strengthen their powerplay bowling. They were surely left disappointed as Badree was ruled out of the IPL due a shoulder injury. He had picked up the injury during the World T20 final when he dived to take a catch but landed sharply on his shoulder. RCB named uncapped South African Chinaman Tabraiz Shamsi as his replacement.</p>

<p>Mumbai Indians opener Lendl Simmons played the season opener against the Rising Pune Supergiants but had to bow out after that. It was a back injury that ruled him out of IPL 2016. Interestingly, earlier, he wasn&#8217;t a part of the West Indies squad for the World T20 due to the same injury but had later recovered. Clearly, the Mumbai Indians will miss his services since he was the best batsman for Mumbai during their title run in IPL 2015, scoring 540 runs in 13 matches at a strike-rate of 122.41 with six half-centuries. MI roped in Kiwi opener Martin Guptill as his replacement.</p>

<p>Left-arm pacer Ashish Nehra suffered a groin injury after Sunrisers Hyderabad played Royal Challengers Bangalore in their opening encounter this season. He missed out on four games before making his comeback against the same side at Hyderabad. Nehra later said that he was a bit rusty on his comeback and will get better as the tournament progresses. <p>The woes for the Kings XI Punjab continued as Shaun Marsh, one of their few batsmen in form this season, was ruled out of the remainder of the season due to a back injury. Punjab are languishing at the bottom of the points table when he left. Marsh picked up the injury in the game against Kolkata Knight Riders and had been carrying a niggle since. He took the field in the next game, when Kings XI beat Gujarat Lions, with some discomfort. After the match, he was ruled out. Incidentally, he had to miss KXIP’s opening game of the season too, due to food poisoning.</p>
