List of records created and broken during the November month

The November month was a delight for the Test cricket fans as India took on Sri Lanka after completing their limited-overs leg against New Zealand while the Windies took on Zimbabwe. The Australian season also started with the commencement of the Ashes series. Various countries had their respective first-class tournament going on during the month alongside the T20 leagues, Bangladesh Premier League, Ram Slam T20 and Pakistan’s National T20. The Asian Under-19 sides faced off in the Youth Asia Cup during the month.

List of major records that were created and broken during the November month.

0 – Number of wickets taken by Indian spinners in the 1st Test against Sri Lanka in Kolkata. It was the first time in a home Test match Indian spinners failed to take a wicket.

1 – Colin Munro became the first player to score two centuries in a calendar year in T20I cricket during the 2nd T20I against India. He is also the 4th player after Brendon McCullum, Chris Gayle and Evin Lewis to score more than one T20I century.

1 – Riyan Parag became the first cricketer born in the 21st century to make debut in the Indian first-class cricket. He made his FC debut in the Ranji Trophy game for Assam against Hyderabad.

1 – Afghanistan’s Mujeeb Zadran became the first player to take two 6-wicket hauls in the Youth ODI cricket. He also became the 2nd player after Pakistan’s Riaz Afridi to take three 5-fers in Youth ODI cricket during the U19 Asia Cup.

1 – Virat Kohli became the first Indian captain with a century and duck in the same Test match. Overall, Kohli became the 18th captain with this double in a Test match during the Kolkata Test against Sri Lanka.

2 – Sikandar Raza became the 2nd player in Test history during the 2nd Test against Windies to score 80 and more in both innings of a Test match and to take a 5-wicket haul. Jacques Kallis scored 110 and 88* in the Cape Town Test in 1999 against Windies and took 5/90 in the 4th innings.

2 – The Shane Dowrich and Jason Holder pair became only the 2nd pair of batsmen batting at No.8 and lower positions to score centuries in the same Test innings during the 2nd Test match against Zimbabwe. Australia’s Roger Hartigan and Clem Hill scored hundreds batting at No.8 and No.9 against England in 1908 at Adelaide.

5 – Virat Kohli’s double century in Nagpur was his 5th in Test cricket; he has scored all of them as the captain. He and Brian Lara are the only players to score five Test double tons as captains.

6 – KL Rahul became the 6th Indian to be dismissed on the very first ball of a Test match when he was caught behind off Suranga Lakmal on the first day of the Kolkata Test. He is also the 8th player to be dismissed on the first ball of a Test series.

8 – Mitchell Starc became the 8th player in first-class cricket history to take two hat-tricks in the same match. He recorded the feat in the Sheffield Shield game against Western Australia for New South Wales. He is also the first player with two hat-tricks in Sheffield and the first in 40 years to do the feat in FC.

9 – Cheteshwar Pujara became the 9th player to bat on all the days of a 5-day Test match during the 1st Test against Sri Lanka. He is the 3rd Indian after ML Jaisimha and Ravi Shastri, who also recorded the feat in Kolkata’s Eden Gardens. However, Pujara’s match aggregate of 74 is the lowest among the nine such occurrences.

10 – Virat became the first captain to score 10 International centuries in a calendar year during the Nagpur Test. Ricky Ponting in 2005, 2006 and Graeme Smith in 2005 scored nine centuries across formats as skippers.

12 – Kohli’s century in the 2nd Test against Sri Lanka was his 12th in Test cricket as a captain with which he went past Sunil Gavaskar’s tally of 11 centuries to become the captain with most centuries for India.

16/141 – Saad Altaf recorded the best bowling figures in a first-class game on Pakistan soil during a Quad-e-Azam Trophy game. He recorded figures of 16/141 against Federally Administrated Tribal Areas (FATA) bettering Sohail Khan’s 16/189 in the 2007/08 season for Sui Southern Gas Corporation against Water and Power Development Authority.

18y 68d – Jason Sangha became the 2nd youngest to score a first-class century against England after Sachin Tendulkar (17y 107d). He is also the youngest to score an FC ton in Australia in the last 24 years.

18y 250d – Ashish Nehra became the 8th Indian with an International career span of 18 years and more when he featured in his final game in a T20I against New Zealand. His span is the 4th longest for any Indian.

18y 251d – Afghanistan’s Baheer Shah became the 2nd youngest to score a triple century in first-class cricket after Javed Miandad (17y 310d). Baheer recorded the feat in the Domestic 4-day competition.

43y 85d – Shivnarine Chanderpaul became the oldest cricketer to score a first-class century in the last 23 years. He did this feat in Windies’ regional 4-day tournament.

53 – Runs Mohammed Siraj conceded on his T20I debut in the Rajkot T20I against New Zealand. These are the 3rd most runs conceded by any player on T20I debut. James Anderson conceded 64 runs against Australia in 2007 while Joginder Sharma gave away 57 against England on debut in 2007.

54 – Number of matches Ravichandran Ashwin needed for completing 300 wickets in Test cricket. He broke the record for becoming the fastest to the milestone of Dennis Lillee (56) in the 2nd Test against Sri Lanka. Interestingly, Lillee set the record exactly 36 years ago on 27th November.

78 – Tim Paine played the first Ashes Test in Brisbane after missing 78 consecutive Test matches for Australia since his last appearance in October 2010. These are the joint most number of Tests any Australian player has missed along with Brad Hogg who missed 78 games between 1996 and 2003.

150* – Kamran Akmal’s unbeaten 150 in National T20 Cup is the highest individual score in Twenty20 cricket by a Pakistan player or by any player in Pakistan. His effort is the 10th 150+ score in the T20 format and the first-ever by a wicketkeeper.

156 – Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan’s partnership of 156 in the first T20I against New Zealand is the highest for any wicket for India in T20I cricket. Rohit and Virat Kohli shared 138 for the 2nd wicket against South Africa at Dharamsala in 2015.

170 – The 170-run target chased down by Australia in the Brisbane Ashes Test is the joint highest in Test cricket without losing a wicket. Aussies equalled their own record which they set by chasing down 170 against West Indies in Adelaide way back in 1930.

191 – Marco Marais, a player from the Border team in South Africa, struck a 191-ball triple ton in Sunfoil 3-day Cup game to break the fastest first-class triple ton record held by Charles Macartney off 221 balls way back in 1921 when he faced the Marylebone Cricket Club.

209* – The unbeaten 209-run stand between Kamran Akmal and Salman Butt in the National T20 Cup is the highest for the opening wicket in Twenty20 cricket and overall the 3rd biggest in this format for any wicket. The pair also became the 2nd opening pair in Twenty20 history to play full 20 overs.

212 – Innings Virat Kohli needed to complete 7000 runs in Twenty20 cricket. He became the 2nd quickest to reach the milestone in terms of innings after Chris Gayle (192) during the T20I series against New Zealand. Overall, Kohli is the 8th player and the first Indian to aggregate 7000 T20 runs. He also became the 3rd player to hit 200 boundary fours in T20I cricket and the quickest among them.

213* – Ellyse Perry’s innings of 213* in the Day/Night Test against England is the third highest individual score in Women’s Test cricket behind Pakistan’s Kiran Baluch’s 242 against West Indies in 2004 and Mithali Raj’s 214 for India against England in 2002. This is also the highest individual score by any player for Australia surpassing Karen Rolton’s 209* against England in 2001. Perry’s double is the first double in Women’s Test cricket in 13 years while the last one was scored by Kiran Baluch.

348 – Virat Kohli needed 348 innings to score his 50th International century the fewest along with Hashim Amla. His 50th hundred came in the Kolkata Test against Sri Lanka.
