'Long distance relationship' - Irfan Pathan shares adorable picture with son while being away from family
During the course of IPL 2020, commentators and crew members have been able to communicate with their loved ones only through phone and video calls.
The much-awaited thirteenth edition of Indian Premier League finally kicked-off from September 19th in the UAE, with MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings registering a five-wicket victory against defending champions Mumbai Indians. Amid Covid-19 pandemic, the league, after many delays, finally commenced and ended the long wait of millions of cricket enthusiasts.
The tournament which wasn’t looking feasible at one point due to a surge in coronavirus cases across India. But the Indian board identified the UAE as a viable option to stage the T20 extravaganza this year. Hosting a tournament like IPL in such conditions isn’t an easy task, But to curb the risk of Covid-19 transmission, the BCCI has confined players and support staff to a ‘bio-secure bubble’ in the UAE.
The bio-secure environment, however, isn’t limited to IPL franchises which are in the UAE. Host broadcaster Star also has also imposed ‘bio-secure bubble’ on their staff which is working from Mumbai. Just like their counterparts in UAE, the Mumbai crew members of Star, including all the commentators, are also residing in a secured bubble. They’ve no option but to stay aloof from their friends and family for almost two months.
IPL 2020 commentary team has been confined to a bio-secure bubble
Former India all-rounder Irfan Pathan, a part of Hindi commentary team of Star, is also currently in the bio-secure bubble in a seven-star Mumbai hotel. During the course of the tournament, commentators and crew members have been able to communicate with their loved ones only through phone and video calls.
Irfan, on Instagram, shared an adorable picture on Sunday and highlighted the disadvantages of living away from family. He shared a screenshot of his video call interaction with his son Imran, who was sobbing after being away from his dad. “Long distance relationship @imrankpathan_official #missyou #comehome,” Irfan captioned the post.
Upon his arrival in Mumbai, Irfan had also shared a picture when he was in quarantine before he started with his off-tube commentary for IPL 2020. “Quarantine since few days before we get going for ipl commentary but who will mind this view??” the Baroda stalwart had written.
Living away from the family for around 60 days can take a toll on anyone, both mentally and physically. According to reports, the Star crew members in Mumbai, apart from their Covid-19 tests, have also been counselled during their two-month stay at the hotel.
