'Look who's talking' - Twitter roasts Shahid Afridi for stating Babar Azam 'lost his tempo'
Skipper Babar Azam scored 114 off just 83 deliveries against Australia in the second ODI.
The recently-concluded second ODI between Pakistan and Australia witnessed history as the former team recorded their highest successful run-chase in the history of the format. The Men in Yellow couldn’t defend 348 at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore as the hosts crossed the line with an over to spare. Skipper Babar Azam was the chief architect of Pakistan’s triumph, scoring 114 off just 83 deliveries.
Coming to bat at number three, the right-handed batter was positive from the outset and played some delightful shots all over the park. In the process, the 27-year-old also brought up his 15th ODI century. He eventually fell prey to Nathan Ellis when Pakistan needed 40 runs for a win. Nonetheless, timely cameos from Mohammad Rizwan and Khushdil Shah ensured Pakistan crossed the line without much hassle in the end overs.
Waiting for Babar Azam to step up as a match winner: Shahid Afridi
With Pakistan scripting history in Lahore, Babar’s stellar century received praises from different corners. Former Pakistan skipper Shahid Afridi also congratulated the batter but he wasn’t wholly satisfied with Babar’s performance. Following the conclusion of the game, the 42-year-old tweeted that the Pakistan skipper ‘lost his tempo’, probably referring to his dismissal after scoring the ton.
Shahid also said he’s waiting for the batter to step up as a match-winner. Apart from this, the legendary all-rounder also lauded contributions from Khushdil Shah, Imam-ul-Haq, and Shaheen Afridi. “Amazing WIN!Good start by @babarazam258 but lost his tempo, waiting for him to step up as a match winner. Regardless, great overall performances by @KhushdilShah_ @ImamUlHaq12 @iShaheenAfridi You made us proud Keep it up boys,” he tweeted.
Shahid’s remarks on Babar didn’t go down well with fans as the comment section got flooded in no time. While several contradicted the veteran’s views, many taunted him over his performance in the international arena. Meanwhile, the three-match series is now leveled at 1-1 with the final game to be played on April 2.
