Lord's renovation hits the new low after chaotic MCC report delivery
The MCC document cites some of the prime issues with the renovation.
For almost over a decade, there have been discussions surrounding the renovation of the iconic venue of Lord’s in England. The popular cricket ground is known as the Mecca of cricket and the players revere the venue as the supreme one. However, in the recent past, the renovation of the venue has come out as the topic of discussion due to mismanagement and inconsistencies between the different parties involved in the venture.
Now, the same inconsistencies seem to have hit the new low with a chaotic delivery of the MCC report. The report outlined two options for the 18000 members involved. The first option was accepting £150million offer from Rifkind Associates for a residential development at the Nursery End or the club itself paying for a cricket-only revamp.
But the not so fruitful relationship between Rifkind and MCC saw an architect of RA, David Morley, leak out a plan of contructing 97 flats in a news daily. This has seen a massive meltown at the Lord’s. The ones who need to worry about this is the MCC and not RA. They are most likely to reject that property play at the moment. The verdict of the MCC is expected to come before the autumn members vote for their feedbacks.
Security issues
The MCC document cites some of the prime issues with the renovation. One among them is the concerns if the Nursery Ground would remain of the same size if two 10-storye buildings are built on either sides. Also, the fact that the Morley team has not made any heritage study about the iconic stature of the venue. Moreover, there would be security concerns caused by the people who would be occupying the 2-bedroom flats in the new constructions.
As per the reports in the Dailymail.co.uk, the review states, “Building residential accommodation blocks within the boundaries of the estate increases Lord’s vulnerability to security breaches according to the Metropolitan Police counter-terrorism advice.”
