Former Indian captain Mohammad Azharuddin’s career might have been affected by a number of controversies, but it was a fact that he was one of the finest cricketers India have ever produced. With 99 Tests and 334 ODIs, the veteran was an indispensable member of the national team. Apart from his cricket career, his personal life has been no short of glee, especially after marrying Sangeeta Bijalni.

Both tied the knots back on November 14, 1996, and back then, their relationship used to hogg the headlines just like Virat Kohli and Anushka Sharma’s relation now. Though both are divorced, Azharuddin remembers every moment with her. Recently, he revealed how he met the 1980 Miss India and remarked that nobody talks about such matters in the public forum.

The understanding becomes easier

The retired cricketer also talked about the relation of Cricket and Bollywood and cited the example of the Late Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi, who married Sharmila Tagore back in 1969. Their children Saif Ali Khan and Soha Ali Khan also went on to ply their trade in the Indian film industry. Azharuddin also iterated that Cricket and Bollywood’s relationship was an everlasting one.

“I met Sangeeta Bijlani during an ad shoot in 1985. Yes, it was love at first sight. Nobody talks about this so openly… But I am telling you. Cricket and Bollywood have had a long-standing relationship because of Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi and the relationship will continue I think, kyunki ye to dil ki baat hai (because it’s a matter of the heart),” Azharuddin was quoted as saying at India Today Mind Rocks.

“Getting married to an actor or cricketer is a personal choice and when there are two stars in question it becomes easier to deal with all the attention. The understanding becomes easier when cricketers and actors get married,” the 55-year-old added.
