Luke Fletcher and Billy Root ink 2-year deal with Nottinghamshire
Fletcher has been a standout performer for the Nottingham side.
The Royal London One-Day Cup winners- Nottinghamshire are having a successful run in the domestic circuit. And the county side has signed up with Luke Fletcher and Billy Root for two more years. The county side had earlier roped in 24-year-old Jake Libby. Nottinghamshire are currently placed number one in the Division Two County Championship and the leaders of the North Group in the NatWest T20 Blast.
Fletcher has been a standout performer for the Nottingham side, as the 28-year-old picked up 36 county wickets at an average of 22.44 and was well set to wrap the season on a high until getting struck by a ball in a NatWest match. It clearly didn’t end up well for the promising bowler, as he had a dream run.
Coach Moores showers praise
“It’s a well-deserved contract for Luke because of what he has done in the last 12 months,” said head coach Peter Moores on Monday (August 21). “He’s gone away and looked quite hard at what he can do to get himself into the team and then play the kind of cricket where he can contribute to making us competitive. He got himself in good shape and, straight away on our tour in Barbados, he impressed everyone with how he was going about his work,” he added.
Moores also stated that he was in fine form during the initial part of the season and played a key role in lifting the Royal London Cup. The pacer has bagged over 350 wickets across all formats for Nottinghamshire.
“Luke has proved a lot to himself by showing that he can go to another level as a player and, as a Notts lad and a heartbeat of the team, we’re delighted to get him tied up for another two years,” added Moores. “It’s been disappointing for him to get injured in the T20 competition and miss the end of this season, but I’m sure he will come back strongly in 2018 and hungry to do well,” he said.
