Maharaja T20 Trophy 2022: Squads, Schedule, Live Streaming, Broadcasters, and all you need to know
The Maharaja T20 Trophy has replaced the Karnataka Premier League.
The Maharaja Trophy T20 tournament is scheduled to kick off on August 7. The T20 competition will be held by the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) and the final is scheduled to be played on August 26. The first leg of the league, comprising 18 games, will be played at the Srikantadatta Narasimharaja Wadiyar Ground in Mysore, while the second leg comprising 16 matches, including the summit clash, will be played at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.
The player draft for the upcoming tournament was held on July 30 at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. The tournament features six teams from Karnataka – Shivamogga Strikers, Mysore Warriors, Hubli Tigers, Mangalore United, Gulbarga Mystics, and Kalyani Bangalore Blasters.
The Maharaja Trophy T20 is a replacement for the now-defunct Karnataka Premier League (KPL) which was active for eight seasons until 2019 before a match-fixing and betting scandal forced and then the COVID-19 pandemic forced the competition to end abruptly.
Meanwhile, the draft that was held last weekend consisted of four pools of players to be picked from. Category A included India and IPL players, B comprised senior state players, C consisted of U-25, U-23, and U-19 players while the final category D included the rest of the players. The franchises roped in some of the seasoned names on board like Manish Pandey, K. Gowtham, Karun Nair, Devdutt Padikkal, Abhimanyu Mithun etc.
