'Makes no sense'- Delhi Capitals co-owner Parth Jindal questions Ravi Ashwin and Pant's absence from ODIs
While Ashwin hasn't been part of India's ODI team since 2017, Pant didn't play any limited-overs game on New Zealand tour.
The Indian team management, during the course of the past two-three years, has made head-turning decisions that have led to scathing criticism from fans, pundits and cricketers. The management’s abysmal planning in the lead-up and in the actual event was exposed to the hilt when two batsmen who never played at four walked out to bat at a crucial middle-order position.
The team management has also been criticized for its lack of communication with the players and their inability to instil confidence in them. The lack of communication was perhaps the biggest reason behind the axing of Ravi Ashwin from the white-ball set-up back in 2017. Ashwin, who was constantly rested leading into the 2017 Champions Trophy, was played in the finals despite him suffering from an injury.
Ashwin had a forgettable outing and he was soon discarded from the white-ball scheme of things along with Ravindra Jadeja. And, while Jadeja has made a comeback, Ashwin continues to remain out of favour. DC co-owner Parth Jindal lashed out at the team-management questioning why the premier off-spinner isn’t in the white-ball scheme of things when he can be a real X-Factor.
“Don’t know why @ashwinravi99 is not in this team! There seems to be an aversion to wicket-takers! After whitewashing the kiwis in T20s the Kiwis showing India that the semi-final victory in the World Cup was no fluke. India needs wicket-takers and players with X factor,” Jindal wrote on Twitter.
‘Pant was carried to warm the bench?’ – asks Parth Jindal
Rishabh Pant did not play a single game during the white-ball leg of New Zealand and Parth Jindal reckoned that the southpaw should have been released to feature in the four-day game against New Zealand A.
“And why carry @RishabhPant17 only for him to warm the bench? Surely he would have benefited from playing against New Zealand A or domestic cricket? To see a player as talented as him not play the 5th T20 and now the 3rd ODI makes no sense #Xfactor,” wrote Jindal in a later tweet.
After being hailed as Dhoni’s successor, Pant has seen a dramatic turn-around in his fortunes where he is not the first-choice wicket-keeper in any format. He last played for India against Australia in Mumbai where he was concussed. Since then, KL Rahul has taken over the keeping gloves from the southpaw.
