South African batting stalwart AB De Villiers enthralled the crowd at Chinnaswamy with a whirlwind unbeaten 39-ball 90 to power Royal Challengers Bangalore to a convincing six-wicket win over Delhi Daredevils on Saturday. The former Proteas skipper smashed 10 fours and five sixes in his unconquered innings as he led Bangalore to their second win of the season.
De Villiers produced vintage innings and single-handedly chased down the 175-run target with two overs to spare to bring RCB’s campaign back on track. However, while the 34-year-old unleashed himself, watching from the other end was Mandeep Singh who had the best seat to the action. Mandeep contributed with an unbeaten nine-ball 17 to Bangalore ‘s winning cause and assisted De Villiers in guiding them over the rope.
Speaking to the media of the South African’s imperial knock in the post-match conference, Mandeep said, “What should I say about AB? I just feel lucky and blessed to be playing alongside him and witnessing one of his best innings. He keeps doing such stuff every third or fourth day. When he is batting at the other end, it makes our jobs easier as we know how much capability he has. Honestly, when I bat with him, I just try to rotate the strike and just give it to him.”
Match Details
Batting first, Delhi Daredevils recovered from a slow start to post a respectable 174-5 after young batsmen Rishabh Pant and Shreyas Iyer cracked twin half-centuries. Pant’s steady 85 anchored the innings as he shared a 75-run stand in with Iyer (52 off 31 balls) and then forged a 65-run partnership with Rahul Tewatia.
Chasing 175 to win, RCB lost two early wickets in Manan Vohra and Quinton de Kock. AB de Villiers then came to the crease and the rest of the tale was scripted by the Proteas batsman as he romped RCB home with his quickfire 90.
