Mandeep Singh’s brother Harvinder denies reports of father’s demise
Mandeep is currently in the UAE, playing in the 2020 IPL.
On Thursday, October 22, reports of Punjab cricketer Mandeep Singh’s father’s demise did the rounds. It was learned that he passed away due to prolonged illness. As per prior reports, his health deteriorated when the Indian Premier League (IPL) had gotten underway on September 19.
Sources suggested that he was brought to Chandigarh where he breathed his last. However, the reports turned out to be false and baseless. The 28-year-old Mandeep’s father is under observation of the hospital staff and has been kept on a ventilator.
The New Indian Express quashed the rumours surrounding his demise. One of their journalists took to Twitter and wrote, “Denying some media reports about his father Hardev Singh’s death, @lionsdenkxip player and Punjab skipper Mandeep Singh’s brother Harvinder Singh said his father is still on ventilator and under critical observation.”
Here’s the tweet:
Mandeep Singh in the IPL
Mandeep is currently plying his trade in the 2020 edition of the IPL. However, he hasn’t played a whole lot of matches thus far in the tournament. In three matches, he has scored only 33 runs at an average of 11. He started with a 27 against the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in Dubai. But then he bagged a couple of single-digit scores and has been left out ever since then.
He also scored a duck against the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi. Mandeep has quite a bit of experience in T20 cricket, playing 168 matches and scoring 3,284 runs at an average and strike-rate of 27.36 and 128.13 respectively.
The right-hander also has 16 half-centuries to show for his efforts in top-level cricket. Mandeep also has the experience of playing for Team India. Back in 2016, he donned the national jersey and played three T20Is against Zimbabwe at the Harare Sports Club.
As far as KXIP are concerned, they started the tournament with a string of defeats. However, having won three matches on the trot, the team has started to find their mojo. KL Rahul is the Orange Cap holder and he has had a hectic time thus far. Their next match is against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on Saturday, October 24 at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.
