Manoj Tiwary named Bengal skipper for the 2018-19 domestic season
This is the first time that Bengal has named a skipper for an entire season.
Manoj Tiwary has been appointed the skipper of Bengal for the upcoming 2018-19 domestic season. The decision was taken by the new selection panel led by former Bengal captain Palash Nandy in the presence of Tiwary himself and the coach Sairaj Bahutule. There were also reports of Tiwary not willing to lead the stateside but his appointment has laid rest to all the speculations.
He was recently disappointed over not being picked in any of the Duleep Trophy squads and in India A and B team for the quadrangular tournament in India despite being one of the best players last season. However, Tiwary clarified that he was honoured to lead Bengal once again in the upcoming season.
“Yes, I am disappointed at not being picked for any of the Duleep Trophy teams, but I have never asked to be relieved of the responsibility of captaincy. Leading Bengal is an honour and privilege, and I am always ready to take up the challenge,” he was quoted as saying by the Times of India after the selection committee meeting.
Selectors announce 31-man probable list
The selectors also announced the list of 31 probable players for the season. There were no notable omissions as both Wriddhiman Saha and Mohammed Shami were also included. They are likely to miss the major part of the season due to the national commitments. The former has already been ruled out with the shoulder injury and is set to undergo the surgery early next month.
