Mashrafe Mortaza tested positive second time for COVID-19

Mashrafe Mortaza, the former Bangladesh captain, on June 20, was tested positive for the coronavirus. The 36-year-old was reportedly unwell and he went into self-isolation at his residence after being in the stranglehold of the ungodly COVID-19 virus. The Narail-born Mashrafe himself gave the news and asked for his fans to pray for his well-being.

He also asked people to not drop their guard and rather follow the guidelines put forth by the government in the pandemic situation. Mashrafe last played for Bangladesh in the ODI series against Zimbabwe. Though he didn’t announce his retirement, he gave away captaincy. Tamim Iqbal was later appointed as the new skipper of the Tigers’ One Day team.

More troubles for Mashrafe Mortaza

In the meantime, the coronavirus has again come back to haunt Mashrafe, who has been tested positive for the second time, reported by CricFrenzy. The veteran has said that he is yet to be tested negative for coronavirus. Apart from Mortaza, his brother Morsalin Bin Mortaza couldn’t evade the wrath of the deadly virus as well. Both are currently staying at home.

In recent times, a number of Bangladesh cricketers have been infected by the virus. Left-arm spinner Nazmul Hossain Apu and former batsman Nafees Iqbal, elder brother of Tamim Iqbal, was tested positive as well. However, both of them have managed to recover. The Tigers’ players have been trying to help wholeheartedly for the ones affected in the pandemic.

Among them, Mortaza gave away half of his national cricket’s salary. He also auctioned off his bracelet, which was there with him for as many as 18 years. However, the buyer later decided to gift it back to the Narail Express. Mashrafe has also helped out some needy people with ration. Moreover, he has been fulfilling his responsibilities, being an MP from the Narail constituency

He has arguably been one of the greatest captains to have played for Bangladesh. In 2015, he led the Tigers to the quarter-finals of the World Cup and then in 2017, he took them to the semis of the Champions Trophy. As a skipper, he is in the list of cricketers with over 100 wickets in the ODI format. A number of cricketers, both current and former, have lauded him for his journey.
