Former India captain Anjum Chopra feels that Virat Kohli is doing everything he can to get himself back in form. She said that a player of Kohli’s standards must try until they get out of the slump. She also feels that the dip in form for the Indian batter was bound to happen, considering the focus he is in.

Chopra said that the way international cricket goes, practice is the only way out. She added that even though Kohli’s current performances are decent, they look bad because of the standards he has set for himself. She opined that it is just a matter of time before the former India captain will be back among runs.

“Virat Kohli himself knows what he needs. When you do not score as per your standards, you practice more,” Chopra was quoted as saying by the Times of India. “I am sure that he is practising, is doing, and will keep doing everything to get back in form.”

Players scoring 30s, 40s have survived in the team for years: Anjum Chopra

“Sometimes, things do not go your way. The kind of adulation and focus he has had on him over the years, this dip was bound to happen sometime. I have seen players scoring 30s and 40s and surviving in the Indian team for years. But from his bat, the 30s and 40s look less because of the standard he has set for himself. I am sure that it will be a matter of time that he will be back among runs for the Indian team,” added the 45-year-old,” she added.

Kohli is currently going through his worst year with the bat in international cricket, averaging around 25 across formats. His previous lowest average of 31.80 was in 2008, which was his debut year. The 33-year-old is also going through his longest century drought for India of over two years. He has been rested for the ongoing India tour of West Indies for three ODIs and five T20Is.
