Some members of the PCB don’t want my involvement: Wasim Akram

Wasim Akram is a major part of Pakistan cricket history. Although he hasn’t really dipped his finger in coaching, Akram has been instrumental in unearthing many a pacer for Pakistan right through the year. However, at the moment, it seems as though the current Pakistan regime has opted to go in with his devastating bowling partner Waqar Younis instead of him. At the moment, for Akram at least, it seems as though the a few elements within the Pakistan cricket board do not want him involved.

The left-arm pacer was an integral part of the Pakistan side that clinched the World Cup in 1992. Despite all his accolades from over the years, Akram feels that his non-involvement means that the current regime at the PCB isn’t interested in improvement of Pakistan cricket.

Wasim said: “If some member (s) don’t want the Chairman to consult me or seek my advice on the appointment of a new coach why is this, I think it is because they don’t want to see anything improve in our cricket,” Wasim said on Geo News channel.

Shahryar Khan, the chairman of the PCB met with Akram briefly in the Indo-Pak encounter at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. He also said that he was shocked to hear that the PCB didn’t want him involved in the coaching.

“I met with the Chairman for a short while at the Kolkata airport and that is all. But now I hear about this resistance to me being involved in Pakistan cricket,” he said.

Wasim Akram has reiterated that he would do anything to help Pakistan in terms of coaching. He also underlined the importance of modernizing the domestic cricket system in Pakistan.

“I am always willing to help out Pakistan cricket and do my best to improve things. But if someone doesn’t want this it means they don’t want to see improvement in our cricket,” he said.

“We need to upgrade and modernize our cricket system because at this time we are 10 years behind the other big nations,” he said.
