Michael Clarke thinks if 6 changes are made Australia can still win World Cup 2019
Australia lost the ODI series 5-0 to England and slipped to No.6 in the rankings.
The Australian team suffered a huge humiliation as they were defeated 5-0 by Australia in the just concluded One-Day International series. As a result, they’ve slipped down to the lowest ODI ranking in 34 years. Tim Paine’s Australia occupies the No.6 spot as per the latest ICC ranking update. However, former Australian captain Michael Clarke thinks if they get back a bunch of players in the unit the Men in Yellow should manage to retain the World Cup in 2019.
Clarke who led the Aussies to the previous championship in 2015 hosted by Australia and New Zealand has been following all these developments very closely. He has had the platform as a commentator and expert on broadcast shows and hasn’t missed a single opportunity to give his opinion on even controversial matters.
After the team’s defeat in the 5th ODI, he stated that this team is a lot better and cannot be judged by the performance in the series. Clarke added that if they get back their best 6 players, this team still has the potential to win the World Cup.
He further added that the team management has to different things to get different results. And it is really important that they start tackle spin bowling better than they are managing at the moment.
Clarke’s tweet read- “Australia is a much better team then they have performed this series. Get our best 6 players back and we can still win the World Cup… BUT”
He followed it up with the explanatory one which said- “If you keep doing the same things you will keep getting the same results! We need to play spin bowling a lot better then we currently are.”
