Michael Vaughan calls in for a change in the MCG Test
The all-rounder has failed step up in both the departments which has been an underlying concern for the team management.
Moeen Ali was expected to be a trump card for England as the Ashes kicked off. All it took was three games to dismiss his stature in the team as a utility player. Former England skipper Michael Vaughan remarked that the all-rounder deserves to be dropped after the poor string of performances.
This certainly hasn’t been England’s tour in any way. From the absence of Ben Stokes to the controversies surrounding them, from Alastair Cook’s rough patch to England’s bowling misery. The Poms now run a risk of getting whitewashed in the Ashes. A repeat of the disastrous 2013 tour is well on the cards.
Moeen who has been England’s leading spinner has taken just 3 wickets in the whole series. Compare that to Australia’s Nathan Lyon who has scalped 15 wickets in the series so far. Vaughan feels that Mason Crane deserves a go.
Moeen can’t play in Melbourne
The former English skipper was completely against Moeen getting another chance in Melbourne. He has failed to step up in both the departments which has been an underlying concern for the team management.
“I don’t see how Moeen Ali plays in Melbourne. You’re not going to put him in your top six, he’s not bowling with any kind of motion. Mason Crane is in the squad. If Moeen is going to be the batsman that bowls a little bit, he’s got to bat a bit better than we’ve seen… so for me, Moeen can’t play in Melbourne,” Vaughan told BT Sports.
With Australia having regained the urn with an unassailable lead of 3-0, England have only pride to play for. The Englishmen would be looking forward to putting their best foot forward in the upcoming games. The Boxing Day Test will be played at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.
