With England‘s Test squad for the upcoming five-match series against India expected to be announced later today, former skipper Michael Vaughan has made his feelings clear regrding the place of Adil Rashid in the Test side. After the leg-spinner dismissed Virat Kohli twice in the ODI series with one being dubbed the ‘Ball of the century’, the England selection committee are beginning to consider the possibility of having Rashid in the squad.

However, in the last couple of years or so, Rashid had withdrawn himself from the longer forms of cricket to focus on white-ball cricket, something that has worked quite well for him in recent times. But, with the ECB beginning to consider the possibility of having Rashid in the Test squad, many have voiced their discmofort on the same.

India will play a five-match Test series and the hosts, at the moment do not have a full-time spin bowling option baring Moeen Ali. The latter, who is viewed as more of a part-time option will be expected to partner either Jack Leach, Mason Crane, or perhaps even Dom Bess.

Michael Vaughan, although wary of the three options’ experience in the grand scheme of things, has gone on to state that maybe Adil Rashid would not be the ideal option, especially given the fact that he has not been committed to playing the County Championships in recent times. The first Test begins on the 1st of August in Edgbaston.

Here is what Vaughan had to say on Twitter:

The former England captain took to Twitter to state his displeasure on Rashid playing Test cricket for England. He wrote: “I personally think Adil Rashid should not be picked for the Test team … any player that cannot commit to the county championship when available shouldn’t be considered IMO … #JustSaying
